Abstract
728,090. High-frequency discharge apparatus. RAYTHEON MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 23, 1952, No. 32646/52. Class 39 (1). [Also in Group XL (b)] Coupled energy in a combined T-R and anti- T-R switch is short-circuited when it reaches a certain value by a discharge between electrodes embodied in the coupling element. Waveguides 10, 11 are coupled by an element comprising resonant slots 13, 14 formed with electrodes 15. The element is enclosed in a discharge chamber 19 sealed by dielectric windows 16, 18. The discharge chamber may contain hydrogen, argon, or water-vapour at low pressure. An alternative arrangement of the resonant slots in pairs 26, 27 with electrodes 28 is shown in Fig. 4. In a further modification, Fig. 10, the waveguides 50, 51 are connected by a short length of guide 55, adjustable electrodes being formed by pairs of screws 56, 57 passing through the walls of the coupling guide 55. The discharge element uses no keep-alive potential.
