Abstract
649,732. Wave-guides. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 25, 1948, No. 8746. [Class 40 (viii)] A tuning piston for a non-circular wave-guide is arranged close to the guide surfaces in which maximum current flows, but more widely spaced from the other guide surfaces. A rectangular wave-guide 1 has a cylindrical piston 2, integral with an adjusting screw 3, and arranged to be close to the middle of the broad. sides. The piston can rotate in the guide and is provided with annular quarter-wave slots 4, spaced apart by a quarter wave-length, to prevent energy flow in the co-axial circuit formed by the guide and the piston. The slots may be arranged obliquely to the piston axis, or may be filled with dielectric.
