Abstract
654,106. Wave-guides. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Inc. June 20, 1947, No. 16340. Convention date, July 3, 1946. [Class 40 (viii)] A wave-guide comprises a rod extending across the guide and means for varying the effective diameter of the rod. As shown, Fig. 1, an inductive reactance in shunt to a wave-guide is provided by a rod 11 extending across the guide between two movable plugs 16. One of the plugs may have an asymmetric projection 23 on its inner end. When the asymmetric plug 23 is screwed into or out of the guide, the effective position of the reactance is varied as well as its magnitude. A capacitive reactance is provided by omitting the rod. A greater range of variation in the value of the reactance may be obtained by placing it off the centre-line of the guide.
