617,919. Wave-guides. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Inc. June 28, 1946, No. 19409. Convention date, July 4, 1945. [Class 40 (viii)] A variable attenuator comprises a section 12 of wave-guide having a slot 13 in a wall thereof and a movable vane 11 having a high ohmic resistance projecting into the guide through the slot. The attenuation will vary in accordance with the extent to which the vane projects into the section. The vane is tapered towards each end to give good impedance matching. It may be mounted on arms 16 pivoted at 15 and moved by a control knob 29 and screw 22 against the action of springs 24.
