Abstract

616,030. Wave-guides. MILLER, C. W., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 21, 1946, No. 24921. [Class 40 (viii)] [Also in Group XL (c)] In a circular wave-guide 1, a block 2 of lossy material having anisotropic properties laterally of the wave-guide is provided, having a circular aperture 3 and rotatable relatively to the guide to vary the attenuation and/or vector orientation. The hole in the block may be gradually flared out at the ends to avoid reflections. The block may be made of laminated carbon loaded fabric and be rotated by a knob 4 projecting through a slot in the side of the guide. This circular guide may be used as a junction between two rectangular guides 6 and 7.
