Abstract
634,400. Coaxial transmission lines. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. May 7, 1947, No. 12384. Convention date, May 28, 1946. [Class 40 (viii)] An adjustable attenuator for a coaxial line comprises a plate 7 of resistive or energydissipating material, movable transversely to the length of the line through an opening in the outer conductor 5, more or less into the space between the conductors, and passing in close proximity to the inner conductor 6. The plate 7 is moved by a rack-and-pinion 11 and 12 operated by a control knob bearing a scale. In an alternative construction the inner conductor 6 is also slotted so that the path of plate 7 may pass therethrough. The edge of plate 7 is curved to avoid discontinuities in the line which cause reflections. The ends of the slot in the outer conductor may also be tapered for the same reason.
