Abstract

680,986. Wave-guides. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 6, 1951, No. 16079/51. Class 40 (viii). A wave-guide attenuator or phase shifter comprises a thin strip 2 of dielectric material, which may be coated to cause attenuation, positioned in the guide parallel to the electric vector therein, and supported by a metal strip 4 at right angles thereto. The strip 2 may be of glass or a plastic, and coated if necessary with a resistive alloy. The strip 4 can move between two blocks 5 secured to the guide. A spring 8 presses the strip 4 against a thrust ball on the end of a micrometer screw 6 which can thus be used to adjust the effect of the attenuator or phase shifter.
