Abstract

655,881. Wave-guides. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF TECHNICAL SERVICES OF. Feb. 27, 1948, No. 5962. Convention date, Sept. 14, 1945. [Class 40 (viii)] A wave-guide 5 includes a block 6 of dielectric material which is transversely adjusted in the guide to alter its electrical length. The block may be mounted on two rods 9 and 9<SP>1</SP> which slide through holes in the wall of the guide and are disposed one-quarter of the operating wavelength apart to minimize the resultant reflections. The ends 8 and 8<SP>1</SP> of the dielectric block are also tapered for the same purpose. The dielectric plate is parallel to the electric vector of the mode propagated by the guide and, when moved across the guide, passes from a position of maximum intensity near the middle of the guide to lower intensities at the edges.
