Abstract
821,150. Waveguide impedance matching. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. June 11, 1957 [Sept. 12, 1956], No. 27888/56. Class 40 (8). A waveguide-to-coaxial line transformer comprises a waveguide member 3 having an end plate 6 which is electrically common with the outer conductor 2 of the line, said member being entered through a hole therein by the inner conductor 1 of the line. A stepped impedance matching conductive block 4 is positioned in contact with an inner wall of said member to launch electromagnetic energy into the waveguide and with its upper portion connected to conductor 1 and its lower step portion being a quarter of a wavelength long at the working wavelength. A second block 5 also a quarter of a wavelength long is positioned on the opposite inner wall of member 3 to compensate for the projection of conductor 1 into said member. Fig. 3 (not shown) represents an embodiment in which the stepped block 4 is replaced by a tapered block of suitable length, and in Fig. 5 (not shown) the need for a compensating block is removed by extending the upper portion of the stepped block to within a predetermined distance of the opposite inner wall.
