Abstract
726,904. Jacquards ; pile fabrics. CARPET TRADES, Ltd. Feb. 20, 1953 [Jan. 12, 1952], No. 987/52. Classes 142 (2) and 142 (4). In a wire tapestry loom, each pile yarn is controlled by a mail suspended from two leashes co-operating with front and rear lash boards, the mail being also lifted by a comber board. The front lash board lifts the yarn to the top shed line, and is up whilst a wire and a lower weft are being inserted ; the rear lash board and the comber board both lift the yarn to the middle shed line, but whereas the rear lashboard remains up during insertion of a pile wire and both wefts, the comber board is up during insertion of a lower weft only. By the action of the comber board alone, the pile yarn is woven over lower wefts and under upper wefts ; if lifted by the rear lash board, the yarn lies over all wefts ; if lifted by the front lash board, the yarn is taken over a pile wire. By lifting the yarn in the same manner for a succession of pile rows, it can be floated in the interior of the fabric as at B, or on the face as at A, or over a succession of wires as at C ; the last-mentioned procedure results in pile loops that are longer than the normal loops D. Wires of different height, with or without knives, may be used. In an example, plain and cutting wires are inserted alternately and the yarn is woven over alternate wires only, as at a, b, the pile being cut or uncut according to which type of wire it is woven over ; a change to the other kind of pile is made (without altering the sequence of wires) by taking the yarn over two consecutive wires, as at i, j, and then resuming the alternating sequence.
