Abstract
705,341. Wire tapestry looms and fabrics. MOHAWK CARPET MILLS, Inc. April 2, 1952 [July 27, 1951], No. 8396/52. Classes 142(2) and 142(4) Pile of four, five, and six heights is produced by employing spoon wires, Fig. 1. which rob yarn from the preceding loops, with or without plain wires, in combination with the method of Specification 677,955, in which pile warp is pushed up into loops behind pile wires on beat-up of the weft, as at L, Fig. 7. The sequence of wires reading from left to right on Fig. 7, produces the five heights of pile shown in Fig. 8. The highest loops H<SP>6</SP> result when spoon wires S<SP>1</SP>, S<SP>2</SP> are withdrawn; loops H' are produced by plain wires P<SP>2</SP>, but if the yarn passes over the succeeding spoon wire, as at P<SP>1</SP>, S<SP>1</SP>, a lower loop H<SP>3</SP> is formed instead; pushed-up loops L remain at the initial height H<SP>2</SP> if the yarn next passes over a plain wire, but are reduced to the height H' if robbed by a spoon wire, as at L, S<SP>2</SP>. In order to weave six heights of pile, pairs of spoon wires alternate with pairs of plain wires, pile of five heights being produced as described above; in addition, when the yarn passes over two spoon wires in succession, Fig. 10, withdrawal of the second wire S<SP>4</SP> robs yarn from the loop formed by the first wire S' to produce a loop of height H<SP>5</SP>, Fig. 11. For weaving a fabric having four heights of pile, all the wires have spoons, the resulting pile being of heights H<SP>1</SP> H<SP>2</SP>, H<SP>5</SP>, H<SP>6</SP>.
