Abstract

1,243,354. Narrow fabric needle loom. CROMPTON & KNOWLES CORP. 28 Oct., 1968 [30 Oct., 1967], No. 50984/68. Heading D1E. In a narrow fabric needle loom having a weft inserting needle 10 for inserting wefts from one side and means 18 for knitting successive weft loops on the other side, a support member 20 with a resilient loop-forming portion 24 is disposed adjacent the first side with the portion 24 being positioned in a plane which intersects the horizontal plane of the fabric being woven and terminating rearward of a line through the fell 15' of the fabric, whereby interconnecting legs of successive weft loops form edge loops 22 which are retained by said portion 24 during weft insertion and stripped therefrom by the seed 28 during weft beat-up. The member 20 may be formed by a curved steel wire or sheet steel spring and may be provided with a shoulder (44) Fig. 8 (not shown) to limit the distance loop 22 can be drawn along the member 20. The member 20 may be mounted on a slidably mounted member 26 Fig. 6 which can be moved by a cam 38 to vary the length of the loops 22 to provide a scalloped fringe or picot edge to the fabric. fringe or picot edge to the fabric.
