A sisal or other hard fibre carpet fabric comprises at least two pile warps, at least one stuffer warp, and at least two layers of weft, the pile warps being looped over (and in contact with) a top weft; immediately before and after passing over a top weft, a pile warp thread passes under either an intermediate or a bottom weft, whereby clearly defined patterns are obtained. The pile warps are controlled by dobby or jacquard, and the carpets may be reversible with different patterns on the two sides. As shown in Fig. 12, there are two stuffer warps a, b; three layers of weft, namely top wefts 1, 3, intermediate wefts 2, and bottom wefts 4; and two pile warps I, II.
