724,384. Seats. LORENZ, A. Oct. 20, 1953 [Jan. 21, 1953], No. 28978/53. Class 52 (2). An adjustable reclining chair &c. wherein a unit comprising a seat and back rest rigid with one another is rockably mounted on a support is characterised in that a controlling element, swingably mounted on the support, is operatively connected to the unit, that a controlling bar is pivoted at one end to the mechanism including the connecting means and the controlling element and, at the other end, is pivoted to a controlling arm pivoted to another member of the mechanism and that the controlling arm is operatively connected to a leg rest pivoted to the front of the seat for effecting movements of said leg rest in co-ordination with the controlling arm. As shown, the combined back rest 24 and seat 22 is pivoted to the support 10 at 20, a controlling element 46 is pivoted to the support at 48, to a connecting link 40 at 44 and to a controlling bar 50 at 52. The other end of the bar 50 .is pivoted at 54 to a controlling arm 36 which is also pivoted to the connecting link 40 at 38 and to a controlling link 30 at 34. The connecting link 40 is pivoted to the seat at 42 and the link 30 to the leg rest 26 which is also pivoted to the seat at 28. The controlling mechanism proportioned as shown raises the leg rest to horizontal position 26<SP>1</SP> for a slight backward movement about the pivot 20. In modifications the connecting means may comprise two connecting links and the controlling element may have its lower end pivoted to the support instead of its upper end.
