789,255. Adjustable chairs. LORENZ, A. Oct. 26, 1955 [Nov. 8, 1954], No. 30668/55. Addition to 789,138. Class 52(2) The mechanism for actuating the headrest of the parent Specification includes a double - arm lever pivoted directly to the frame of the chair and having its arms connected respectively to the head-rest and the back rest. As shown in Fig. 2, the back rest 24 is pivoted to the frame 20 at 30 and a double-arm lever 40 is pivoted to the frame at 41. One arm of the lever is connected by a pivoted link 42 to a downward extension 52 of the back rest and the other arm is connected directly to the rod 36 actuating the head-rest 34. As the back rest is pivoted rearwardly, the extension 52 swings the lever 40 anticlockwise so that the head-rest is extended to the position shown. Alternatively link 42 can connect one arm of lever 40 to the control lever 50 by which movement of the back rest actuates the leg rest 46 and the seat 28. As shown in Fig. 8, the back rest 326 and seat 328 form an integral unit pivoted at 330 to the frame 320 and movement of this unit actuates the leg rest 346 through a link 353, a ball crank 350 pivoted to the frame at 349 and a control lever 351. A link 342 connects the lever 351 to one arm of the double arm lever 340 actuating the head rest 334. As shown in Fig. 10, the seat and back unit is pivoted to the frame at 430 and bears on an abutment 452 of a bell-crank 450 to move it and so actuate the leg rest 446, one arm of the doublearm lever 440 for actuating head-rest 434 being pivoted to one arm 453 of the bellcrank. As shown in Fig. 11, the back and seat unit, when tilted back, bears on end 552 of lever 550 to swing it counter clockwise about its pivot 549. An arm 553 rigid with lever 550 moves double-arm lever 540 through a link 542 to extend the headrest 534.
