An adjustable reclining chair &c. in which a structure including a seat and back rest having co-ordinated movements is rockably mounted on a support is characterized in that the structure includes a constrained linkage, that a controlling bar is pivoted to a movable link of the linkage and to a controlling arm which itself is pivoted to another link and that means are interposed between the controlling arm and a leg rest pivoted to the front of the seat for effecting movement of the leg rest in co-ordination with the controlling arm. As shown, the constrained linkage includes the downward extension 22 of the back rest pivoted to the support 10 at 20, a connecting link 24, a front connecting link 30, the seat 34 pivoted to the support 10 at 36, a guiding link 38 pivoted-to the support 10 at 40 and to the connecting link 24 at 42, the above comprising the movable links of the linkage and the support between the pivots 20 and 40 and between the pivots 36 and 40 comprising the stationary links of the linkage. The extension 64 of the guiding link 38 is pivoted to one end of a controlling bar 58, the other end of which is pivoted at 60 to a controlling arm 52. This arm 52 is pivoted to the link 24 and to a controlling link 48 pivoted at 50 to the leg rest 44 which is swingably mounted at 46 to the front of the seat 34. The chair is shown in its two extreme positions, viz. sitting and reclined, the positions being caused by the desired movements and pressure of the occupant. As shown, the pivots between certain of the members may be varied in order to vary the relationship between the seat, back rest and leg rest. Various modifications are described in the Specification including the provision of means whereby as the chair is moved from sitting position the links of the link system are blocked relatively to each other at a predetermined point and thereafter the chair may be moved to extreme inclined position without alteration of the relative positions of the seat, back rest and leg rest.
