Abstract

722,894. Two-part couplings. SHARDLOW ELECTRIC WIRES, Ltd., and JONES, P. Feb. 27, 1952 [Dec. 13, 1950], No. 30459/50. Class 38 (1). A plug connecter for a screened coaxial cable comprises a tubular metal socket-engaging part 4 insulatingly carrying a contact pin 10 and having an integral tapering tubular extension 7, and a separate metal sleeve 11. To connect a cable, the sleeve 11 is slid over the cable end, the outer protective cable cover is removed, the metal screening sheath is brought back, and the insulation cut away a certain distance to expose the core. The insulated core is passed through the extension 7 until the insulation abuts an insulating block 9 and the core enters the pin 10 wherein it is soldered. This action causes the screening sheath to ride up over the extension 7 so that when the sleeve 11 is finally screwed to the part 4 the sheath is jammed between the extension 7 and the interior of the sleeve 11. A socket connector for the plug comprises a metal sleeve 13 split at 18 and having a pair of lugs 14 whereby it is fixed to a base plate 15, an insulating block 20 being clamped therebetween. The block 20 carries a socket contact 21 and an integral terminal stub 22. On insertion of the plug the. sleeve 13 is forced open by the part 4, but is restrained by a thin sleeve 17 retained by a circlip 19. The socket connector forms the subject of Specification 722,990.
