Abstract

692,487. Internal combustion pumps. WEBB, W. H. Sept. 27, 1951 [June 27, 1950], No. 16042/50. Classes 102 (i) and 102 (ii). An internal-combustion pump comprises a vertical pipe 15 having a foot valve 17 and a delivery spout 18 and through which liquid is propelled by a piston 11 driven by the piston 3 of a two-stroke engine disposed coaxially with the pump piston; the momentum of the rising liquid in the pipe 15 causes fresh liquid to be drawn in past the foot valve. The pipe is extended at 19 to form a surge chamber and the back pressure of the liquid subsiding in the pipe 15 effects the return stroke. The engine has a combustion chamber 4 and a scavenge chamber 5. Alternately a separate scavenge pump may be used. A starting handle 20 is provided.
