Abstract
179,172. Mõdler, F. May 2, 1921, [Convention date]. Combustible mixtures, preparation of in pumps. -A rich charge is drawn from a carburettor 11 into a vacuum in the pump throgh a port 10 uncovered by the piston 4 at the end of its outstroke. At the end of the instrohe the compressed charge is forced through passages 9, 8, 7 into the charge of air in the cylinder before the air is compressed. The rich charge may be compressed in the pump to its igniting temperature and enter the cylinder at the end of the compression stroke of the main piston. A relief valve 12 on the pump is opened momentarily and before the piston begins its outstroke. The engine always receives the same weight of charge from the carburettor however the speed may vary.
