Abstract

180,679. Klee, J. May 24, 1921, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Two - stroke - cycle engines. - Air admitted through the port m is compressed on the instroke in the pump chamber i, and combustible mixture is compressed in the crank case. At the end of the in-stroke the air, which has been heated by contact with the piston, is transferred through the port p to the chamber b and some mixes with any combustible mixture trapped in the chamber. Towards the end of the out-stroke, the compressed mixture from the crank case drives before it the air and mixture from the chamber into the power cylinder, the exhaust passing out through the port n. At the commencement of the in-stroke, as the pump displacement is greater than that of the power piston, part of the charge is drawn back into the chamber b, the pressure in the chamber b being equalized with that in the crank case. The pump may serve a number of power cylinders and in this case may be constructed independently of the power cylinder.
