Abstract

314,384. Auro, P. June 26, 1928, [Convention date]. Two - stroke - cycle engines. - A compound engine has two high pressure cylinders h, arranged side by side and working with one low pressure cylinder B. The low pressure piston reciprocates at twice the rate of either of the others, one high pressure and the low pressure pistons being simultaneously at the ends of their out-stroke with the other high pressure piston at the end of its compression stroke. The high pressure pistons commence to uncover delivery ports o, to the low pressure cylinder at half stroke; at the end of the outer stroke of the low pressure piston a scavenging air admission port 0 is uncovered, the air blowing the products out of the cylinders through the exhaust ports O<1>, i. After the exhaust ports are closed the low pressure piston delivers the air in its cylinder into the high pressure cylinder then on its compression stroke and after closure of the delivery port o compression proceeds in the high pressure cylinder until the air is at a temperature to ignite the injected fuel. Driving-gear.-The high pressure pistons drive on to the main crank shaft M through rocking beams, V, V<1>, eccentric rods and eccentrics E, E<1> on an auxiliary shaft D this shaft being connected to the main-shaft through a 1 to 2 spur gear. Where two sets of cylinders as described above are used the high pressure cylinders are arranged with their open ends at the opposite side of the engine to that shown in the Figure.
