Abstract

372,008. Two-stroke engines. LœCK, A., 20, Ostkaistrasse, Hildesheim, Germany. Feb. 26, 1931, No. 6115. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi).] In engines wherein a pump a is placed by the side of the power cylinder b both pistons compressing a scavenging charge in the crank case, the pump piston g is driven off the main crank pin P4 through a link k, rocking lever i and connecting rod st. This driving gear is arranged so that both the pistons arrive at the ends of their downstrokes together to give maximum compression effect in the crank case ; the pump piston moves in advance of the power piston on its upstroke to deliver a charge to the power cylinder and allow the usual advance of ignition. There is some dwell in the movement of the pump piston at the top of its stroke. Air is admitted to the crank case by two admission ports o, w but mixture may be used in the crank case. For an oil engine air may be supplied by the upper side of the pump but as shown mixture is admitted from a carburetter first through the valve x, Fig. 2, and then through the terminal port p. The front side of the pump cylinder may be closed to form a separate pumping chamber for scavenging air. Valves.-The combined inlet and delivery valve for the pump consists of two coaxial beat valves l, x, the outer valve l acting as the delivery valve from the pump.
