Abstract
4350. Montbarbon, C. M. P., and Chedru, G. E. Aug. 8, 1913, [Convention date]. Two-stroke-cycle engines; driving-gear.-In an engine with an annular pump piston b<2>, the wall a' of the main cylinder is extended to form the dividing- surface between the main piston c<1> and the pump piston b<2>. This is driven by eccentric and toggle mechanism i2, d2 from the crank-shaft so that the two pistons reach the ends of their down - strokes almost simultaneously, but the pump piston completes its up-stroke long before the other and just before the port m<1> between the pump and main cylinder is closed. The exhaust port q is uncovered when the main piston reaches almost the end of its down-stroke, and the port m' is uncovered when the pump-piston has uncovered the inlet port k so that the charge enters the cylinder during the completion of the downstroke, and that remaining in the annular space is pumped into the cylinder.
