377,124. Driving pumps. VANNI, P. G., 30, Via Solari, Milan, Italy. Feb. 16, 1932, No. 4624. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1931. [Class 7 (ii).] In engines having the air or gaseous fuel pump 9 arranged at or substantially at rightangles to the power cylinder, the pump piston 8 is driven off one or more eccentrics; the centre 4 of each sheave is in line with the radius containing the crank pin 2. The eccentric may be spaced a short distance away from the crank web or be formed integrally therewith ; or the crank web may form the sheave. The pump may be used for charging four-stroke cycle engines. Two-stroke-cycle engines.-The pump delivers to a balance chamber 13, surrounding the power cylinder, the charge entering through terminal ports 14. A rotary valve 12 controls admission and delivery of the pump. Automatic valves are used in a modification applied to a V-twin engine. Balancing reciprocating parts.-The weights 11 carried by the crank webs balance both pistons 6, 8. In a two-cylinder arrangement, the power and pump pistons 68 .. 71, Fig. 6, are balanced by weights 23, 63 on the crank webs and weights 64, 65 mounted on the end of the crank shaft 1.
