343,131. Twostroke engines. KNOCHENHAUER, W., 4, Harburgstrasse, Wernigerode, Germany. Nov. 11, 1929, No. 34351. [Class (ii).] In an internal-combustion engine in which the air is pre-compressed in a pump cylinder a coaxial with the power cylinder f, the pump cylinder is placed against the power chamber and the power piston g is connected to a crank d<1> advanced on the pump piston crank d<2> by 180‹ plus the angle over which the fuel is injected into the cylinder. In the form shown, the crank pins d<1> of the working cylinder are 225‹ ahead of the crank pins d<2> of the pump cylinder, so that the piston c is 45‹ from its upper dead centre when the working piston g is at its lower dead centre. Air drawn into the upper part of the cylinder f during the downstroke of the piston g is compressed during the upstroke through the conduit n into the pump cylinder a, and is further compressed during the upstroke of the pump piston c until the power piston a reaches its lower dead centre, when the compressed air is forced into the power chamber with the fuel (which is heated to ignition temperature) from the fuel nozzle o, until the piston c reaches its upper dead centre and the valve v is closed.
