Abstract
231,326. Barnard, J. H. April 1, 1924. Cam-and-lever actuated pumps ; stroke, varying. -In an internal combustion engine having twin working cylinders supplied with air by a compressor, the air is sprayed with liquid fuel immediately prior to entry into either cylinder by an ejector device a, Fig. 12, the rate of delivery of fuel bearing a constant proportion to the rate at which air is entering the cylinder. The liquid fuel is sprayed similarly in both cylinders by air drawn by a pump 73, Fig. 12, from a chamber 37, through which the air passes from the receiver of the compressor to the working cylinder 1. The pump 73 is driven through push rods 69, Fig. 1, by a cam 63 which also actuates the fuel pump plunger 93. The radii of the delivery portion of this cam are proportional to the volume swept out by the power piston. The cam is axially adjusted to vary the stroke of the plunger.
