Abstract

198,183. Whitcombe, C. H. April 28, 1922. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-A fuel injection pump has a plunger n actuated by a cam r on the forcing stroke and by a spring p on the suction stroke a wedge such as x being provided to vary the length of the suction stroke. The pump chamber e is formed in the wall of the cylinder, and communicates directly therewith by means of one or more valueless passages f; a casing such as a surrounds the upper part of the plunger. The fuel is supplied through a valved passage g. Fig. 3 communicating with a groove j in the wall of the chamber e. The wedge x is carried by a plate w supporting a roller t intermediate between the cam and the plunger. In an alternative construction the plunger is driven through the intermediary of a bell-crank and a push rod.
