Class 55(i) In a coke oven door of the kind described in the parent Specification, the bolt 16 of the latch 18 passes freely through both the said latch and an adjustable bearing 14 on the door 8, and a series of plate springs 15 is mounted on said bolt between the bottom of the bearing and a pressure plate 20 abutting the latch. The springs are compressed to permit release of the latch by a member 21 which is pivoted at 23 and has bridge pieces 22 thereon contacting the pressure ring 20. Opposite the pivot 23 the member 21 is fitted at 29 with an operating arm 30 an end of which is provided with a door-supporting hook 32 adapted to be engaged with a projection 33 on the bearing 14 to swing the member 21 and so move the plate 20 to the right. The arm 30 is also provided with ramps 35 adapted to engage rollers 34 on the door and initiate opening movement of the latter. In a door with upper and lower latches the two arms 30 are connected by a common actuating member 37, and the members 21 are pivoted on a door supporting and conveying machine 28 comprising vertical girders 25 with horizontal arms 24.
