Abstract

[Class 65(i)] [Also in Group I] A gate of the kind which is displaceably carried by a tiltable runway and which moves substantially in its own plane, the runway being tilted by means operated by a depressible platform situated in the approaches to the gate, is characterised in that the runway with its supports is disposed, at least in the open position of the gate, wholly at the side of the gateway. As shown, a pair of oppositely moving gates 28 are each provided with an extension frame 29 and are each suspended by means of rollers 30, 31 from a runway 25 pivotally mounted at 26 on a post 27. The platform 1 is adapted, when depressed, to displace the upper arm 16 of a double armed lever, the lower arm 17 of which is connected by cables 20, 21 to the inner ends of the runways. The latter are thus raised when the platform is depressed and cause the gates to open, the gates closing under their own weight when the platform is released. Check means may comprise a pair of members frictionally engaging the runway and connected rigidly together, one or other of said members being struck by the rollers towards the ends of the travel of the gate. In a modification the runway is itself slidably mounted on the upper arm of a T-shaped lever, the lower arm being connected by a rigid linkwork to the means operated by the depressible platform. In this arrangement the gate is closed by means of a counterweight incorporated in said operated means. In a further modification the slidable runway is rigidly connected to the gate.
