Abstract

614,818. Lift gates. DEWHURST, M. Aug. 1, 1946, No. 22970. [Class 78 (iii)] A device for releasably coupling the cage and landing gates comprises a pair of links 4 pivoted together at 5 and pivotally connected at 6 to plates 7 which are slidably mounted in vertical guides 8 on the cage gate and are urged towards each other by springs 11 to project the links into a recess in the landing gate, pivotally mounted bell-crank levers 12 being provided to collapse the links when the gates are closed by striking a slamming post 13 which causes them to rotate and move the plates 7 apart. Inward travel of the plates is limited by the bell cranks 12 engaging stops 14. The recess in the landing gate is in the form of a vertical channel formed by a pair of anglesection strips. The links and the plates may be made from moulded plastic material.
