Abstract
785,907. Door operating-appliances; multiple fastenings. COLEMAN, F. G., and POTTER RAX. Ltd. Feb. 2, 1956, No. 3314/56. Classes 44 and 65(1) [Also in Group X] A sliding door has a counterweight to urge it open with a force which is diminished as the door approaches its fully open position. In Fig. 1, each sliding door also comprises folding plates 1. pivoted to upright members 2 connected by lazy tongs 3. A chain or like 4 is connected at one end to the inner end member 21, passing over sprockets 5, 6 and being connected at the other end to an upper weight- 7. One or more lower weights 8 are sus-- pended from the weight 7 by chains 9. When a multiple fastening is released each door opens under the action of the weights 8, 7 until each weight 8 has come to rest on the floor when the door completes opening under the action of the weight 7 only. The multiple fastening comprises a pair of bolts 11, Fig. 4, which are spring urged to engage behind lugs 12 on the sliding doors 2 to hold them closed. The bolts are interconnected by a bar 18 and are withdrawn by a pull rod 14 connected through a bell crank 16 and a rod 17 to the bar 18. The bolts and lugs 12 have cam surfaces 11<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP> which co-operate as. the doors are closed.
