Abstract

973,596. Door operating appliances. WESTLAND ENGINEERS Ltd. Oct. 2, 1963 [Oct. 6, 1962], No. 37905/62. Heading E2M. An "up and over" door is controlled for the initial part of its closing motion by radius arms 11 pivoted to temporarily fixed points 15 on links 14 on the door surround and for the closing stage of its motion by rollers 18 engaging curved guideways 19, a release mechanism allowing the points 15 to move during the closing stage of the door's motion. The link 14 is held in its fixed position by a spring biased pawl 30 engaging a notch 32. The release mechanism comprises an adjustable striker 33 on each radius arm 11 which knocks the pawl 30 out of engagement with the notch 32 thus allowing the link 14 to pivot on the door surround. The door also has side rollers engaging vertical tracks 17. The door is raised by chains or cables passing from the side rollers over motor-driven sprocket wheels 25 or drums and attached to counterweights. The tracks 17 and side rollers may be replaced by pivots sliding on bars and the points 15 may slide instead of pivoting on the link 14.
