Aug. 13, 1957 [Aug. 14, 1956], No. 24777/56 Class 44 Means for operating and locking the doors of a bottom discharge dumper vehicle comprises a pair of rotatable longitudinal cam shafts provided with a series of cam projections which are adapted to engage with the presented adjacent edges of a pair or pairs of discharge doors, the pair of shafts being articulated through toggle linkage which is manually broken to unlatch the doors by means of a hand lever. As shown, in which a pair of doors 3 are hinged along the outer longitudinal edges'of the discharge mouth of a dumper vehicle, the doors are retained in the closed position by a plurality of cam-like projections 6a integral with each of a pair of shafts 6 disposed adjacent the longitudinal centre line of the discharge mouth and rotatably mounted on the frame of the vehicle. Cranked arms 7 at one end of the shafts are interconnected by a pair of links 8, a common pivot 8a of which is connected to a link 9 which is pivotally connected at its other end to a hand-operated lever 10. Depression of the lever 10 about a pivot pin 11 is limited by adjustable stops 12 carried by the arms 7 and adapted to abut a stop plate 13 on the dumper frame. The other ends of the shafts 6 are similarly interconnected by linkage, the link 9 being pivotally connected to a lever 14 fulcrumed about a pin 11a. The lever 14 is also pivotally connected through a link 15, an arm 16, a shaft 17, an arm 20 and a link 21 to the lever 10, the arrangement being such that depression of the lever 10 rotates the shafts 6 to disengage the projections 6a from the door edges 3a to allow the doors to open. A catch plate (not shown) may be provided to prevent accidental release of the lever 10. A chain 23 at each end of the dumper limits outward swing of the doors 3, and a second chain 24 at each end is connected through a pulley block 25 and a cable 26 to an_ hydraulic or pneumatic ram 30 by which the doors .are closed and by which their opening movement is controlled
