Skips. - Relates to skips for use with aerial ropeways, &c. or with cranes, with two or more bottom discharge doors 17, 18, held closed by an operating or retaining and releasing lever 23 which is retained by means such as a catch 30. One door 17, Fig. 1, overlaps and rests upon the edge of the door 18, and the latter rests upon lugs 25 on the short arms 22 of the U-shaped lever 23 at both sides of the skip. When the catch 30 is released, e.g. by striking an abutment at the end of a runway, the doors open by gravity, the door 18 swinging freely and the door 17 throwing the lever 23 over by means of a link connection 21 which may be slotted at 29. The lever 23 is returned by hand to raise the door 17, and the door 18 may be raised by a ramp beneath the end of the runway. Rollers 42, 43 on the doors run upon the ramp. In a modification, Fig. 4, two doors ara hinged along opposite edges of the skip as at 54 and rest at one edge upon a third door 50 opening in a direction at right angles to the others. The door 50 is supported by the lever 23. The link 21 is omitted and the doors are raised to the closing position by ramps. The skip, Fig. 1, has smooth internal walls and tapers outwards towards the bottom to facilitate the discharge of sticky materials. The doors have flat surfaces and are pivoted at points 16 beyond the body of the skip so as to leave an unobstructed outlet when open.
