Abstract

The coupling jaws for the articulated vehicle have two hinged segments (3, 9) hinged on either side of a slotted base-plate (1). The plate is bolted to the vehicle with an array of bolts (2) for simple fitting. One segment (3) locks the trailer kingpin (6) securely in the slot, while the other segment (9) serves as the locking segment to hold the first segment closed. The locking segment is operated by a lever (12) to open and close the coupling. The locking segment is pivoted on an adjustable eccentric pivot (10) so that as the first segment wears, the locking segment can be reset to compensate for the wear and provide a rattle free coupling. The two segments are braced on each other in the open position for automatic coupling, with the entry of the kingpin closing the catch.
