Abstract

A hinged stanchion 5 supports a hinged side/tailboard 8 of a commercial vehicle in the upright position and includes a horizontal pivot pin 13 mounted in an upwardly open half bush 2 and a vertically sliding locking bolt 11 positioned vertically above said pivot and having a transverse member 14 engaging in a fixed hook-shaped keeper 3, a spring 17 being provided to urge said transverse member into said keeper. This simultaneously urges said pivot into the half bush thus eliminating movement between the component parts of the stanchion when in the locked condition. In a preferred form there also included an addition locking means 20 and acting to prevent the release of the locking mechanism when the side/tailboard is in the upright position. <IMAGE>
