Abstract

688,122. Clamps, hinges. FREEMAN, E. G., and STEDALL & CO., Ltd. Dec. 8, 1950 [Sept. 19, 1949], No. 24092/49. Classes 44 and 65 (ii) In hinge means of the type whereby a flap is mounted for swinging at will about axes adjacent opposite parallel edges of the flap, and wherein bracket members 12 attached adjacent opposite parallel sides of the flap carrying hinge pins 6 adapted to engage with socket members 13 secured adjacent an edge of the opening for the flap, means for retaining the hinge pins rotatably and releasably in the socket members comprise notched latches 18 mounted on a rotatable shaft 17, the latches and sockets encircling the associated hinge pins from opposite sides. As shown, the latches serve as releasable fastenings for the lower edge of a vehicle tailboard 4, when the latter hinges about its upper edge on pins 5 retained in sockets on the vehicle body by removable keeper pins 10. The shaft is provided at one or both ends with a lever 19 which constitutes a combined operating and locking means. For the latter purpose a perforated lug 20 on the lever is adapted to be secured between a pair of plates 21 on the vehicle body by means of a keeper pin attached to the lever by a chain 24.
