1495813 Vehicle engine shields DEERE & CO 7 April 1975 [19 April 1974] 14120/75 Heading B7B A vehicle engine shield comprises a fixed hood 54 and two side doors 98, 144 hinged at their lower edges by hinges 100 and 146, respectively, the doors being held closed by latches arranged so that the latch on the top door 98 is accessible to an operator only when the lower door 144 is open. Similar doors 98, 144 may be provided on the opposite side of the engine. The engine is shielded in the vicinity of the gap between the doors 98, 144 by a V- shaped baffle 90. The door 144 is held in its closed position by spring-loaded latches 152, 166 engaging apertures in fixed upright members 84, 88. The adjacent ends of latches 152, 166 are bent upwardly to form handles 148, 150 accessible through the gap between the doors 98, 144. A hooked-shaped member 182 is pivotally mounted on upright member 88 and projects through an opening 186 in the door 144 to receive a padlock securing the door in its closed position. The upper door 98 is held closed by latches 110, 112 having cranked ends 106, 108 engaging slotted latch plates 140 on the upper edge of the door. The latches 110, 112 are rotatable about vertical axes by handles 142 when the lower door is open. The lower door 144 is provided with a step 200 and foot rail 196 on its inside face which are brought into their operative positions when the lower door is opened.
