Abstract

Collapsable cabinets.-A cabinet for mounting in an opening 12 formed in a door, comprises hinged parts adapted to be folded or collapsed within the opening so that they lie substantially within the outer surfaces of the door, and inner and outer closures 16, 24 are provided. The cabinet has its side, top and bottom members hinged around the opening. The side members 13 carry spring-pressed latches 19 for engagement with recesses in the top member 15, and the bottom member 14 is adapted to be supported by means oi spring-pressed latches 21 carries by the side member 13 and engaging pins 22 disposed in openings 23 in the bottom member, as shown in Fig. 8. The inner doors 16 of the cabinet have locking means 17. The inner closure consists of two doors 16 hinged to the edges of the side members 13, and is for use when the cabinet is arranged as a cabinet as shown in Fig. 5. Closures 24 are hinged to the door along the outer vertical edges of the opening, and in addition to an ordinary lock a latch is provided on the inside for operation when it is desired to prevent the doors being opened from the outside. A second cabinet is mounted on an opening 27 below the first cabinet, side members 28, bottom member 30 and top member 34 being hinged around the opening. A front member 31 is hinged to the bottom member 30, and is provided on its upper edge with a keeper 32 for engagement with the bolt of a lock 33 on the top member 34, as shown in Fig. 9. When all the members of the lower cabinet are collapsed so as to lie within the opening 27, the bolt of the lock 33 engages a member on the door. The front and bottom members 31, 30 are supported in operative position by means of strips 37, Fig. 9, secured to the side members 28, the front member carrying pins 38, which project through the strips 37. Spring latches 39 on the side members engage the front member 31. An outer door 41 is hinged to one side of the opening 27. Ventilating apertures 43 are provided as shown in Fig. 5. In the construction shown in Fig. 13, the side members 46 and top and bottom members 47, 48 are hinged to the door, and the front member 49 is hinged at its upper and lower ends to slides 50, Fig. 17. The slides 50 are each engaged in a groove 51 in the corresponding member 47, 48, and allow the member 49 to be moved inwardly when the cabinet is to be collapsed.
