741,432. Door-operating appliances, hinges. CAILLET, R. March 7, 1953, No. 6374/53. Classes 65 (1) and 65 (2). A hinged element, such as a door 3, is supported by a linkage comprising at least one main link 7 pivoted respectively on a fixed vertical axis 5 in the vicinity of a vertical edge of the door when the latter is closed and to the door on a parallel axis 8 at approximately the middle of the door, and at least another link 10 pivoted respectively on a fixed vertical axis 11 and to the door on a parallel axis 12, the arrangement being such that both links are of approximately the same length, that in said closed position the links extend in the same direction from their fixed axes to their movable axes, and that the links are capable of moving into an opening position in the same angular direction when the linkage is capable of forming a deformable quadrilateral which permits of the door moving into an opening portion with a minimum of projection relative to a fixed wall during its operation. Axis 5 is constituted by a shaft journalled in brackets 6 secured to the edge of the door opening in the wall 1 of a ship. A pair of links 7 is fired to the shaft. Link 10 is pivoted to the wall 1 above the door opening. Shaft 5 is rotated to operate the door either by means of a worm wheel fixed to the shaft and meshing with a worm driven by a chain and sprocket, or by means of a spur wheel fixed to the shaft and meshing with a rack displaceable by a double-acting hydraulic jack.
