Abstract

607,254. Window opening and closing apparatus. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Jan. 29, 1946, No. 2895. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1945. [Class 20(iii)] A window operating mechanism particularly for a vehicle comprises an endless flexible transmission 5 carried by a frame which is foldable to facilitate installing it in the restricted space in the window well. For this purpose the frame comprises a central portion 12 with offset ends 14 to each of which an arm 13 is pivoted, pulleys 11 being provided at the free end of each arm and at each end of the central portion. Guards 16 keep the transmission member on the pulleys. The transmission passes several times around a counterbalancing spring drum 20 and doubles on the intermediate pulleys so as to form two active vertical flights 4 to which the window 1 is attached by lugs 3, there being a resilient connection between the lugs and the flights to compensate for any non- parallelism between the flights and the window guides 2. The spring drum is rotatable in either direction by hand crank 27 and locking means are provided either to prevent rotation of the drum in either direction, otherwise than when the drum is operated by the crank, or to prevent rotation of the drum in the window-opening direction, whilst permitting rotation in the window-closing direction, when such movement is attempted otherwise than by actuation of the crank; the latter alternative permits the closing from outside the vehicle, of a window which has inadvertently been left open but prevents the opening, from the outside, of any closed window.
