Abstract

596,140. Door springs and checks. FREWER, S. H. Sept. 4, 1945, No. 22912. [Class 65 (i)] A combined spring and check for doors open. ing in either direction comprises a verticallyarranged helical spring C and a horizontallyarranged cylindrical chamber D containing the piston E of the check, the piston being connected to a boss F disposed axially of the spring and rotatable with the opening and closing of the door. Upper and lower annular members G and H rotatably mounted about the boss are engaged respectively by fingers F2 and Fl projecting from the boss and engage respectively the two ends of the spring and also make contact with stationary stops, so that the spring is stressed on rotation of the boss in either direction from an initial position. Means for adjusting the amount of spring tension comprise a peg R carried by the boss and adapted to enter one of a series of holes provided in an operating arm K. The peg may alternatively be carried by the arm. The spring is enclosed by a pressed steel housing A which is attached to the chamber D, and the device is enclosed by a detachable cover T which may be provided with any desired finish.
