606,228. Door closing mechanism. NEWMAN & SONS, Ltd., W., SHEAD, H. C., and ROLLASON, S. A. Jan. 11, 1946, No. 980. [Class 65 (i)] In a single-acting door closing and checking mechanism of the floor-spring type, comprising a slidablyguided spring-actuating member and a rotatable spindle, one of these parts has two or more spaced pins or projections which are successively and respectively engaged with two or more spaced notches or recesses in the other part as the door is opened in order to compress the spring or springs, the spindle also having a pin or projection for actuating a fluid check as the door closes. The spindle 4 carries pins 7, 8, 9 disposed between discs 5, 6. In the closed position, Fig. 1, a spring-actuating head 11 carried by a rod 10 abuts against the casing at 14 and engages the pin 9 by means of a notch 13. A stop-pin 31 carried by disc 6 abuts against the head 11. As the door is opened, the rod 10 slides within a guide sleeve 15 against the action of springs 17, and in the fully-open position the pin 8 engages a notch 12, the pin 9 and notch 13 then being out of engagement. In this position the pin 9 abuts against the face 30a of the lug 29, and the bracket 27 abuts against the end wall of the casing, so that further movement is prevented. As the door closes under the action of springs 17 a ring 25 is rotated by the engagement of pin 7 with a lug 29, Fig. 6, thereby operating the piston 19 of a fluid check 20. A flange 26 formed around part of the periphery of disc 6 co-operates with the bracket 27 to form stops at the closed and open positions. The spring unit 10, 15, 17 and the check unit 19, 20 are interchangeable to suit doors having the hinge either at the left-hand or right-hand side. The head 11 may carry upstanding pins instead of the notches 12, 13, the pins 8, 9 then being replaced by notches.
