Abstract

1,168,984. Door closing and checking appliance. J. I. ADAMS. 30 Jan., 1967 [4 Nov., 1965], No. 4438/67. Divided out of 1,168,983. Heading E2M. A door closing and checking appliance comprises a housing 10 supporting a spindle 17 which rotates on opening and closing of the door, a member 13 which on opening of the door is displaced by a cam 16 on spindle 17 acting on roller 15 mounted on the member against the action of a spring 11, and a damping mechanism comprising a piston 19 slidable in cylinder 18 such that on closing of the door fluid is forced through restricted passages thereby causing a damping effect. The cam may be provided with a recess so that when the cam is engaged by the roller when the door is in the open or closed position, the door is held open or closed until sufficient force is applied to the spindle to move the recess clear of the roller. The cam may also be so shaped at the position where it is engaged by the roller when the door is fully open that the door must be moved in the closing direction before spring 11 reacts to close the door.
