A spring door closer comprises a channel 5 let into the door frame, a spring housing 4 let into the door and an arm 7 acted on by the spring having a roller 8 that fits in the channel 5 and engages the dwell or pocket 9 when the door is fully opened (as shown) and is disengaged when the closing of the door is begun, thereafter urging the door into the closed position. The pin 6 is connected to a rack and pinion gearing inside the housing 4 which compresses a compression spring as the door is opened. A fluid check device operating during the closing movement may be included.
