Abstract
595,856. Door closers. RUTHERFORD, R. June 8, 1945, No. 14539. [Class 65 (i)] A spring closer designed to give a door rapid movement near its closed position comprises two telescopic parts one of which, a casing 1., 2, is secured to the frame the other, the spring anchor member 9, is adapted to act on the door. The parts are capable of relative rotary and axial movement under the control of a cam track formed on one of the parts and engaging a projection on the other part, the cam track increasing in stope towards the end which the projection engages when the door is closed. The spring 12 resists axial movement of the parts produced by relative rotation thereof in the door opening direction. The part 9 is straddled by two members 19 and 19a depending from the door operating spindle 17, and carries rollers 16 which engage cam tracks in a sleeve 4 fixed to the casing. In a modification a casing part connected to the door and formed with external cam tracks, telescopes against the action of a spring, within a casing part fixed to the frame and provided with pins adapted to engage the cam tracks. The door is held open in both cases by the projection engaging a recess formed at the ends of the cam track.
