518,078. Controlling valves &c. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES, Ltd., SMITH, E. W., CHARLES, A., and CHRISTIAN, A. J. Aug. 11, 1938, No. 23717. [Class 27] Valve contral.-Valves, switches &c. for gas or like meters are controlled by two or more mechanisms one of which is a master control. Fig. 1 shows a gas valve a swinging about a shaft c to the outer end of which is fixed a disc f which is pulled by a spring j so that the valve tends to open. Loosely mounted on the shaft c are independent arms g, i which engage pins f<1>, f<2> projecting from the disc f. A spring h coiled around the shaft c engages the pin f<1> and a screw g<2> on the arm g, and tends to turn the disc f clockwise when the arm g moves clockwise, and to open the valve. The arm g is turned clockwise by a coin mechanism cum metering mechanism disc k, and the arm i bears against the pin f<1> of the disc f to prevent opening of the valve till a basic rate cam disc l rotates to swing the arm i upward to the position shown in dotted lines. The cam groove in the disc l has concentric portions to allow for payment of arrears. Electro-magnetic operation may be employed, and the master control may be a time control mechanism.
