Abstract
854,522. Door operating mechanisms. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE A.G. Nov. 30, 1956 [Dec. 5, 1955], No. 36781/56. Class 65(1). A vertically slidable door is moved to the open or closed position by means of an endless chain, belt or other flexible member passing over two wheels mounted above the opening provided when the door is opened, at least one of the wheels being driven by an electric or other motor, and by a connection to the flexible member which is attached to the door at a point on or close to the vertical passing through the centre of gravity of the door. A vertically sliding door 1 is guided at its edges in U-section iron guides provided with guide rollers. An endless chain 2 passes over two guide wheels 3, 4, the wheel 3 being mounted vertically above the wheel 4 which is driven by an electric motor 8. One link 2a of the chain 2 is formed with a plate 10 to which is pivoted by a pin 11 an upper rod member of the connecting rod system 9. The rod member is laterally offset from the plane of the chain so that the door may be opened or closed without reversing the direction of rotation of the motor 8. The articulated connecting rod system 9 "gives" laterally and allows a short final run or lost motion for the link 2a. In a modification, the connecting rod system is arranged in the plane of the chain. In this case the motor 8 must be reversible.
