912,244. Gates. O'CONNOR, P. Jan. 26, 1959 [Jan. 27, 1958; March 14, 1958; March 28, 1958; April 23, 1958], No. 2727/59. Class 45. [Also in Group XXV]. A gate for a cattle pen which can pivot about either end has the hinge elements at each end mounted on a bolt 15 vertically slidable on the end upright member 10 of the gate and manually operable lever or cam means 17 are connected with each bolt for moving it vertically, a horizontal bar 18 the ends of which co-operate with notches or recesses 19 in the respective bolts being slidably mounted on the gate for the purpose of locking one of the bolts when the other is displaced vertically to disengage the corresponding hinge elements. Preferably the bolts 15 and bar 18 are located inside the appropriate tubular members 10. 11 of the gate, and the ends of the bolts are each provided with a lateral projection 37 (not shown) and engage keyhole-shaped apertures in lugs 14 on the gateposts 3 so that the hinge elements can only be disengaged when the gate is closed. Abutments 20 on the gateposts co-operate with lugs 21 on the gate uprights to prevent the gate from being lifted off its hinges : in a modification a second, inclined, abutment is provided beneath the lug up which the latter may ride as the gate closes. The bolts 15 may carry apertured lugs engaging pivot pins secured to the gateposts.
