The lift cage doors 1, 2 each carry driving means which, during opening and closing movement, engage the corresponding shaft door and couple the doors together, the driving means comprising two levers 13 pivotally mounted on axles 11, 12 which, in plan, are inclined relative to the cill of the cage for movement between a position in which they lie on the cage side of the edge of the shaft cill and another position in which they extend to engage the shaft door. The levers are controlled by straps 15 connected to one end of an upwardly spring biased rod 17 which tends to move the levers towards the extended position. The upper ends of the rods 17 carry rollers 24 which abut a bar 25 vertically displaceable by means of a bell crank 26 and a connecting rod 29 pivoted to a lever 30 freely rotatable about the crank shaft 31 of the door actuating means. During movement of the doors the bar 25 is held in its upper position by the rods 17 but as the doors approach the closed position a stop 32 on the shaft 31 abuts the lever 30 and turns it to depress the bar 25 and rods 17, thus retracting [he arms 13 from engagement with the shaft door. The arms carry rollers 14 which embrace fixed and displaceable bars 22, 23 respectively on the shaft door, the movement of the latter when engaged by a roller serving to unlatch the door. The cage doors are provided with safety ledges 1a; 2a respectively of known type which are displaced if the doors encounter an obstruction. Specification 889,610 is referred to.
